Casata Mergè

The Casata Mergè winery looks out upon the vineyards of the splendid hills of the Castelli Romani area, in a typically Mediterranean climate zone situated on the boundary between Frascati and Monte Porzio Catone, the ideal, original location for farming native varieties. In fact, the Ancient Romans chose this area as their prime holiday home spot, thanks to its landscape, its climate, and the goodness of its wine. The history of the Mergè family, which hails originally from the Castelli Romani area, begins in the early twentieth century with Manlio Mergè and his wife, farmers by trade, who started their wine-growing activity with respect for the territory’s culture and its historic characteristics. Today, Luigi Mergè, with his children Massimiliano, Marco, Maria Beatrice, and Marianna, and the fourth generation represented by his grandchildren, continues to nurture this initial seedling by maintaining family roots intact and producing wines with respect for traditions while keeping pace with the most advanced technologies. Over time, a long and careful path of analysis and experimentation has been translated into the replanting of selected varieties and the adoption of new farming techniques, leading Casata Mergè to emerge in recent years onto the landscape of Lazio’s excellent offerings.

The particular nature of our wines is born from the volcanic terrain left as an inheritance of the “great Latium Volcano” that has endowed us with a subsoil optimal in every plot, carefully selected by us for each planted variety. We thus range from plots with mixed limestone subsoils to basaltic terrains and other pozzolanic ones, abounding in minerals that can benefit the grapevines. We have arranged our areas with counter planting systems, pruned in Guyot or spurred cordon style depending on the varieties and the types of wine to be produced. Areas of extraordinary beauty, capable of creating unique nectars – real masterpieces for wine lovers.
